So it looks like this is for the long-haul … back to another period of home schooling. I realise how blessed we are to have a garden and to have walks on our doorstep. It has also been a chance to spend more time with my hilarious, warm and creative son. I am always ranting about the lack of freedom and creativity on the school curriculum so here is an opportunity for me to walk the walk!
My son’s school has been great in setting work for him but we are enjoying doing our own thing and (along with boxing, badminton and trampolining) family yoga is one of our PE lessons! We do a lot of PE! It has been great fun connecting with friends, lots further afield and also meeting new people.
Yoga could also form part of the PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) curriculum as it helps children’s (and adults!) self-confidence, adaptability and resilience. We also link themes to other aspects of the school curriculum such as Ancient Egypt for History and Harry Potter for Literacy.
We include yoga postures, game and partner poses as well as breathing and relaxation techniques. If your children haven’t tried yoga this is a great way to introduce them whilst still having the chance for your own practice. Family yoga can also help communication and strengthen family bonds.
